EV Charging Plan for Northern Beaches

EV Charging Plan for Northern Beaches

There has been some discussion recently about one of our objectives; to encourage the wider use of Electric Vehicles (EV) in our area. The electric vehicle market has continued to grow with one of the largest companies in the world (Tesla) having a large portion of the market here with its range of fully electric cars, that are not only high performance cars but with significant range (500KM+).  These cars come as quality cars with amazing features but there is still an issue with the entry cost and so called ‘range anxiety’ and with expected release next year there will be a signifiant range of new competitive EV cars from many well known suppliers ( Hyundai, Kia, Audi, Mercedes Benz, VW, Nissan, BMW, Lexus etc ) so access to top up EV Charging stations throughout our community will be an important factor in their uptake to minimise any range anxiety issues.

Apart from Plugin Hybrid  cars (PHEV) or hybrid cars that have a back up combustion engine the EV cars will require overnight charging at home or at accessible community and commercial charging stations.

EV cars and their mobile battery storage will be an important part of our renewable energy future and the reduction of greenhouse gases. We believe the transition and change to EV requires some proactive work and the Northern Beaches Council has released their Plan on what may happen locally as below which you can download and comment.
