EV CHARGING STATION PROPOSED FOR FRESHWATER VILLAGE
One of the major obstacles to the introduction of Electric powered vehicles will be the lack of conveniently located charging stations.
Northern Beaches Council is supporting the roll-out of short term charging stations operated by Ausgrid in partnership with an EV-charging start-up called JOLT.
Ausgrid will convert many of its distribution Kiosks at sites conveniently located near to business centres. In Freshwater Village, there is an appropriate site on the corner of Dowling and Lawrence Streets. It is proposed that two parking spots there be allocated for short term re-charging of vehicles. Short-term is defined as 15 minutes of free charge but up to and no more than an hour for a fee. JOLT will also gain revenue from paid advertising on the Kiosks. Since these kiosks are often the target of graffiti, this may be a welcome side benefit.
The Friends of Freshwater has been anticipating the need for EV Re-charging and has raised with Council the natural opportunity presented by the Oliver Street Car Park, which is adjacent to the 14KV Ausgrid Sub-Station. Recently the Car Park was rezoned from Community to Operational and this allows for a range of community uses including EV Charging. The nearby source of power will enable faster re-charging.
Public submissions on this Proposal are due to be submitted by 21 November and further details are on the Council website.
